The 2017 ICC Champions Trophy is a One Day International (ODI) cricket tournament scheduled to be held in England and Wales between 1 and 18 June 2017.[1] This will be the 8th edition of the tournament. The top eight teams in the ICC ODI Championship rankings as on 30 September 2015 qualified for the tournament. The eight teams were divided into two groups of four.

Bangladesh replaced the West Indies, who finished outside the top eight in ninth position, in the ICC ODI Team Rankings on the cut-off date. Bangladesh returned to the ICC Champions Trophy for the first time since 2006, and for the first time, the West Indies lost their place in the Champions Trophy.



 Team Bangladesh:

Team Bangladesh is in group A along with Australia, New-Zealand and England. These all teams are hot favorite but there has a high chance for Bangladesh to roar their power.

Bangladesh Squad:

Bangladesh officially announced team squad for Champions Trophy 2017. 15-Man team squad of Bangladesh cricket team for the upcoming mega event ICC Cricket Champions Trophy 2017 is announced and list of members includes many experienced and young players.

The Tigers have announced their best possible team to unleash their talent, and abilities in the Champions Trophy 2017.The Bangladeshi fans are over the moon, and they are expecting some fantastic results in the tournament from this young talented team. After the World Cup, Champions Trophy is a quite big event. Therefore, the Tigers are preparing very hard for the great challenge.
In this tournament at the United Kingdom, Bangladesh has some really good players in the squad, and without any doubt, these players are more than capable of thrashing any team on the given day. To be honest, it’s a big task for the Bangladesh team, to enter into semi-finals, but without any single doubt, this team has all the ingredients to become the finalists for this Mega Trophy.

Masrafe Mortaza (Captain)


The skipper, Masrafe Mortaza, is not only a great pace bowler, but also a very handy batsman as well.  Without any single doubt, the Bangladesh Captain is a genuine match-winner; and having exceptional leadership qualities.  The aggressive pacer is a great asset for his team; and in the Champions Trophy, the Bangladesh will bank heavily on this gentleman. The 33-year old all-rounder is very keen to display a great show at this mega event.

  • He made a Test debut against Zimbabwe at Dhaka, way back on the 8th of November, 2001.

  • Mortaza made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe at Chittagong on 23rd of November, 2001.

  • In 172 ODIs, Mashrafe has picked 225 wickets for the Bangladesh team, with the average of 30.21, and an economy rate of just 4.73. From the bat, Mashrafe Mortaza scored 1556 runs, which include one half-century as well.

Tamim Iqbal


The stylish left-handed batsman, Tamim Iqbal is a treat to watch, when he is in full flow. The opening batsman is a key player in the National team, and in the mega event; the team needs a lot from him. Tamim Iqbal also holds the record for most number of runs in the ODIs and Tests for the Bangladesh Team. So, if he clicks in the tournament, then surely it will be quite hard for the other teams to stop the Tigers.

  • The 28-year old, Opening Batsman has scored 5251 runs, at an average of 32.81 in 162 matches so far. He has also smashed eight centuries in this limited-overs format.

Soumya Sarkar


Soumya Sarkar is one of the best batsmen in the current Bangladesh team. The Left-hander is a wonder prospect for his team, and he has to play a crucial role in the upcoming big event Champions Trophy. The 24-year old is a shining star; and Cricket Gurus have been highly regarding him as a next big thing in the world of Cricket.

  • This highly talented player made his Test debut against Pakistan, at Khulna on 28th April, 2015.

  • He made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe on 1st of December 2014, at Dhaka.

  • In 23 Odis so far the left-hander has scored 772 runs, at a healthy average of 38.60, and an exceptional strike-rate of 98.34. In a relatively young career, Soumya also had a century in the ODI format.

Imrul Kayes


The solid and experienced opener, Imrul Kayes holds a vital place in the batting unit because of his right approach in the middle. Imrul Kayes, along with Tamim Iqbal is a formidable opening duo for Bangladesh. In this “Mini World Cup” ,the Tigers will heavily rely on both the openers, and it’s must for the experienced player like Imrul Kayes to rise up on this big occasion.

  • The opener, Imrul Kayes made a Test Debut against SouthAfrica in Bloemfontein on 19th November 2008
  • ODI Debut:
  • His ODI debut was against New Zealand at Chittagong, on 14th of October, 2008.

  • In 65 ODI matches, Imrul has scored 1873 runs at a low average of 29.26, with a 67.23 strike rate.

Shakib Al Hasan


The backbone of the Bangladesh team, Shakib Al Hasan is one of the very few players, who can equally perform, with both bat and ball. The number 1 all-rounder in the ICC rankings, has to play out of the skin to keep the team in the next round of the Champions Trophy. The former Captain, Shakib Al Hasan proved his worth again and again, in the international arena. Once again, all the responsibilities of the team are on the shoulders of this young warrior. So, Shakib has to work very hard to meet the expectations of his fans; and team management.

  • He holds a great record in ODIs, and in 169 matches; he has picked 221 wickets at an average of 28.54; whereas with the bat, he has scored 4476 runs, at a good average of 35.11.

Mushfiqur Rahim (Wicketkeeper)


The wicketkeeper-batsman, Mushfiqur Rahim is a spectacular man to be in the team. He is a real match-winner, and a true team man. His contributions, along with other main players transform the team into a force to reckon in the Cricket globe.
Mushfiqur is a man of crisis; and thousands of times, he has rescued the time from the jaws of defeat. His wicket-keeping skills along with incredible batting, make him a great all-rounder for the team.

  • ODI Debut:
  • The wicketkeeper-batsman played his first ODI against Zimbabwe in Harare on 6th of August, 2006.

Mahmudullah


Mahmudullah is one of those players in the Bangladesh unit, who knows the art of handling the pressure in the crunch moments. He is the only player in the nation team, to smash two centuries in the World Cup. Apart from that, He was also the top scorer for Bangladesh in the last World Cup in 2015. Apart from his batting, he is also no mud with the ball as well, and that’s why Mahmudullah is like the gold for this talented Bangladesh team.

  • In 137 games, Mahmudullah has scored 2878 runs, at an average of 32.70; whereas the talented all-rounder has also claimed 70 wickets, at an average of 44.10 in his career so far.

Sabbir Rahman


Sabbir Rahman is a future of Bangladesh cricket. The right-hander can play the spinners and fast bowlers equally well; and because of that, the Captain has the luxury to place him anywhere he wants in the batting order.
Apart from that, the young batsman is also a good finisher; and with that ability, he can be used as a pinch-hitter in the death overs according to the match situations.

  • ODI Debut:
  • His ODI debut was against Zimbabwe at Chittagong on 21 November, 2014.

  • In 35 ODIs, the right-hander has scored 750 runs, at an average of 28.84, and with the strike rate of 95.12.

Mustafizur Rahman


The mystery fast bowler, Mustafizur Rahman is a great prospect for the Bangladesh team; and he has played a significant role in defining the path of the team in this big event.
The Left-arm pacer, has been phenomenal in his career so far, and the fans are expecting the same from him; in order to continue the performance from where he left. In the English conditions, the young , fast bowler has to deliver some quality stuff regularly, in order to keep the things right on track for the Tigers.

  • Fizz made his Test debut against South Africa at Chittagong on 21st of July, 2015.

  • The fast bowler played his first ODI game against India at Dhaka on 18th of June, 2015.

  • His ODI record is phenomenal; and in 14 matches, he has taken 36 wickets including three fifers, at an average of 16.27.

Taskin Ahmed


The talented Right-arm fast bowler, Taskin Ahmed, is a spearhead of the Bangladeshi bowling unit; and in the Champions Trophy, the team needs something very special from this talented young bowler.  He is a good operator of a new ball, and surely; he is the one, that keeps the batsmen in check. He is a genuine wicket-taker; and the skipper is having huge hopes from this young star.

  • At Wellington, against New Zealand, Taskin made his debut in the Test Format on 12th of January, 2017.
  • ODI Debut:
  • Taskin played his first ODI against India at Dhaka on 17th of June, 2014.

  • In 26 ODIs, Taskin has picked 41 wickets at an average of 27.09.

Rubel Hossain


Rubel Hossain has been recalled into the team after a layoff; and that is purely due to his experienced factor. He is an underrated fast bowler, but honestly, he has the talent to mesmerize any batsman on any pitch.
The medium-fast bowler is a good choice to have on the team; and the presence of this experienced bowler in the hut, will boost the confidence of other young pacers as well. Another key thing, which favors Rubel in the line-up, is his previous experience in the English conditions.

Shafiul Islam


Shafiul Islam is also making a comeback after a long absence from the mainframe. The medium-fast bowler has good memories playing in the United Kingdom; and that’s the main reason, that convinced the selectors to keep him in the side.
Shafi Ul Islam is not an automatic choice for the skipper in the presence of Taskin and Mustafizur; but still, he is a good choice for replacing any of the fast bowlers during the Champions Trophy.

  • Shafi played his first Test against India at Chittagong on 17th of January, 2010.
  • ODI Debut:
  • His ODI debut was against Sri Lanka at Dhaka on 4th of Jan, 2010.

  • In 56 ODIs, Shafi has picked 63 wickets at an average of 36.41.

Mosaddek Hossain


After a fantastic performance in the Bangladesh Premier League, Mosaddek Hossain got the chance to play in the national team, and he accepted the invitation with both hands. The 21-year old, Mosaddek is a refreshing batsman, especially in the late stage of the innings.
Not only that, but also the young player is a handy off-spinner, and that gives the extra edge to the team with his presence. So, for the number 7 spot, he is the best available choice for the team management.

  • The Test debut of Mosaddek was against Srilanka in Colombo, on 15th of March, 2017.
  • ODI Debut:
  • He made his ODI debut against Afghanistan at Dhaka, on September 28, 2016.
  • ODI Record:
  • In 11 ODIs, he has scored 213 runs at an average of 35.50 along with 90+ strike rate. Apart from that, he has picked six wickets also at 41.66 average.

Mehedi Hasan


The skipper of the U-19 team that qualified for the semi-final of the U-19 World Cup, Mehedi Hasan, is now a permanent member of the national team. The sparkling talent is a perfect all-rounder, with incredible batting and bowling talent. He is not only a brilliant off-spinner, but also a great Batsman. After a dream kick to his start on the international circuit, the Bangladesh is expecting a lot from this teenager. So, it’s a great platform for this great talent to prove himself in this mega Champions Trophy.

  • The Teenager made his Test debut against England, at Chittagong on 20th of October, 2016.
  • ODI Debut:
  • On 25th March, 2017, Mehedi played his first ODI at Dambulla against Srilanka.
  • ODI Record:
  • In his 3 ODI matches, Mehedi scored 51 runs, with the average of 51; whereas, from the bowling perspective, the talented player has taken four wickets so far at an average of 35.51.

Sunzamul Islam


The uncapped Sunzamul Islam, has been given a chance to represent his country in this prestigious Champions Trophy. The 27-year old, Sunzamul Islam is a good left arm spinner, and an excellent fielder as well. It’s a huge moment for a youngster like him to display his talent in front of the entire world.
